ADVENTURE MODULES The first adventure modules were designed to help busy or beginning gamesmasters create adventures to entertain their gaming groups with a minimum of preparation. Instead of struggling to draw a map or detail a lair, the GM could use an adventure module (also called "dungeon modules") to kick-start game preparation. Freed of the drudgery of creating nonplayer character personalities and other minutiae, GMs could spend more time and energy tailoring the game to the particular needs and preferences of the players in the game. In addition, utilizing prepared adventure modules allowed the GM to inject new and different ideas into the game and campaign, ensuring that the game stays fresh over time. These adventure modules are crafted to serve the modern GM of "classic" fantasy roleplaying games for Basic- and Expert-level players. They are also specially designed to be utilized in a number of ways. Most detail one or more "site-based" encounters, such as a cave complex or a ruined castle. In addition, many include detailed wilderness areas complete with random encounter information. Some even include towns or villages, fortresses, and outposts that can easily be converted to other uses. In short, each is designed to give MAXIMIUM utility per page to the gamemaster. |
Basic- level Adventure Modules |
Designed for Basic-level games for character levels 1-3, these adventures are suited for players new to roleplaying, or beginning brand-new campaigns for any compatible fantasy roleplaying system. Very suitable for "One-shot" or casual games, they can be converted for use with any "Advanced" fantasy roleplaying system with a minimum of effort. |
